Tiny Table for Two

When your house is tiny every square inch has to count, even when it comes to fun things such as toys. Sure, the Barbie Dream House is great, but if you can't get it into your kids' room, it's useless. Space-saving, organizing toys are a hit with us.

This little table is a perfect example of a dual-use toy. It's a table suited for any doll, stuffed animal or child.

But it's more than that; it's a storage solution for little dishes, cups and food, too. Willow is excited to demonstrate her table's versatility as seen on this video from our YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/WillowandJuliet.

The best part about this table is it's cheap (especially when compared to the ones they sell for American Girl Dolls) and it's super simple to make.

The table base is a standard wood box purchased from a craft store for around $6. Look for a box that is tall and slim like the pedestal of a table. You'll want it to have a sturdy metal clip.

The table top is a wood plaque purchased in the wood burning aisle of the store for $2.99. There were so many shapes and sizes to choose from that it was hard to pick. Simpler plaques can be found for $1 or $2.

We attached the two using high-stick Velcro tape. Originally I thought we might want to be able to pull the top off. In retrospect, you could just as easily use a strong wood glue. Though the Velcro does help counter the typically uneven wood found in craft store plaques. No tools are required. If the edges on the plaque are rough, just sand them down with a bit of sandpaper. You could paint or finish the table if you like, but I like the natural look.

The cute little lasagna dinner set is an American Girl Doll store splurge.  Dinner is just one possibility. The table is also cute as a tea table.

It's even fun for a furry friend game night. The tiny Apples to Apples game is another American Girl Doll store splurge. It comes in a sleepover set, and the cards are real. You can actually play the game with them, assuming you can decipher the itty bitty writing.

This is our first blog post, but please subscribe and expect more. Our house is packed with fun space-saving ideas.
